No Two the Same

"No two the same", my Momma told me.
Squinting as the snowflakes fall,
Wondering how many billions all in all.

"They're all like that", some like to say,
Placing people into bins,
So that they can hierarchize; assigning sins.

"No two the same", my Momma told me.
"Best to get to know each one.
You'll find they don't fit in their box, before you're done."

People are a lot like snowflakes,
They come in many shapes and forms,
And rarely choose to acquiesce to other's norms.

"No two the same", I tell my children.
"No two the same", I voice the phrase.
Words of wisdom I'll remember all my days.

gmcookie, you have nailed the concept of refrain... and I like that you used this 'form tool' in a loose and un-uniform manner. You also followed the 3 line verses of tercet form... and successfully used the refrain in opening, expansion and closure of poem intent.... but I agree, the snowflake metaphor is a well-traveled poem...

Yes, let us celebrate our differences. In doing so, we get as close as identical twins. Well, maaybe not that close, but close enough.

Well done Glen. Form wise this is specific. The subject is a bit cliche, but the personal touch of mom holds the poem with a more specific attitude: as a poem about mom as a snowflake. It might have been even stronger in that sense; if you had said the same phrase to your own children. But that's an assumption on my part. You might NOT have children. But the concept would have be extended into less snow snowflake and more generations of snowflakes as humans. Nice metaphor and poem even if it is a bit over done. A poet friend/ RH Peat

Professor Pete... You are absolutely right. I changed that last stanza so that I passed the same lesson on to my children. I think that little change makes it much stronger. Thanks for the tip.

Well, that's good; hopefully the snowflakes will keep falling through the cookie generations. :-) A poet friend// RH Peat

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
